Morrisons in Reigate

The company was founded in 1899 by William Morrison. The first egg and butter store was at Rawson Market in Bradford. His son, Sir Ken Morrison, is currently the company's chairman. Ken Morrison took over the company from his father in 1952. In 1961 the first supermarket was founded in the Girlington district of Bradford. In 1967 the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

In 2004, Morrisons took over the British retail company Safeway plc . The company also owns the Farmer's Boy food factory in Bradford. In May 2005, Morrisons acquired Ratbones Bakeries, which supplies bread to Morrisons' supermarkets.

The company is one of the four largest supermarket chains in Great Britain; in addition, there are the three competitors Tesco , ASDA (belongs to Wal-Mart ) and J Sainsbury .
