Prudential is a UK finance and insurance company headquartered in London , England . It is listed on the FTSE 100 stock index on the London Stock Exchange . Prudential employs around 22,000 people worldwide (as of 2013) and has 20 million customers. In addition to its home country Great Britain, Prudential operates in twelve countries in Asia and owns Jackson National Life in the United States and the M&G fund company in Great Britain . It also has a majority stake in the financial company Egg Banking , an internet bank. Prudential offers annuities, life insurance, investments and other financial services.

In the Forbes Global 2000 of the world's largest companies, Prudential plc ranks 66th (as of FY 2017). The company had a market value of over USD 68 billion in early 2018.

Prudential is not to be confused with Prudential Financial from the United States.

Prudential was founded on May 30, 1848 in Hatton Garden , London, under the name "The Prudential Mutual Assurance Investment and Loan Association". In 1911 the Prudential Assurance Company was the largest insurance company in Europe.

In 1924 the company went public on the London Stock Exchange .
