history
Persimmon was founded in 1972 by Duncan Davidson. Davidson began developing his business in Yorkshire. In 1984 Persimmon bought Sketchmead. The enlarged company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1985 . At that time, the company was building around 1,000 houses a year. The steady regional expansion led to a volume of up to 2,000 houses by 1988 with a target of 4,000 after the housing recession. In 1995, Persimmon began a number of important acquisitions. Ideal Homes, previously the largest construction company in the country and then part of Trafalgar House, was purchased, giving the group a much stronger presence in the southeast. This was followed by the purchase of the Scottish housing company John Laing plc and Tilbury Douglas Homes.
In 2001 Persimmon acquired Beazer Homes UK, making it the UK's largest builder, increasing construction output to over 12,000 homes per year. Charles Church , known in Great Britain for exclusive house construction , also belongs to the company .
In January 2006, Persimmon acquired Westbury plc. , a UK competitor in the construction industry.
