The Force India VJM09 is the Formula 1 - racing cars of Sahara Force India for the Formula 1 World Championship 2016 . It is the ninth Force India Formula 1 car. The vehicle was presented on February 22nd, 2016 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya .

Technology and development

The VJM09 is the successor model of the VJM08 and visually hardly differs from the revised version of the previous model used in the second half of the 2015 season. As with the previous model, the vehicle nose with two holes is striking. These openings form a closed channel below the nose and ensure a significantly improved air flow under the vehicle without the need to produce a short nose, which leads to problems in the prescribed crash test.

The VJM09 is powered by the Mercedes-Benz PU106C Hybrid , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger . The ERS also comes from Mercedes.

Painting and sponsorship

The VJM09 is painted in black and silver, and a curved orange stripe runs across the vehicle. The title sponsor and shareholder Sahara India Pariwar is represented as a sponsor on the side pods. Other major sponsors of the team are Kingfisher Airlines and the United Breweries Group with its spirits brand Royal Challenge, companies that are close to the team boss Vijay Mallya . In addition, Claro, a brand name for cellular networks from América Móvil and the NEC Corporation in several Latin American countries are represented on the vehicle.

driver

The driver pairing remained unchanged compared to the previous year. For Nico Hülkenberg it was the fourth and for Sergio Pérez the third season for Force India.

2016 season

With the VJM09, Force India achieved fourth place in the constructors' championship, the best result in its history to date. Pérez achieved two podium places in Monaco and Europe . After a weak start to the season with 14 points from the first five races, Force India regularly reached the points with both vehicles, especially in the second half of the season, so that Williams could be overtaken and distanced.
