training

In the second free practice, Rosberg was fastest in 1: 44.152 minutes ahead of Raikkonen and Verstappen.

Qualifying
The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 16 drivers reached the next part. Ricciardo was fastest. Vettel, in which the rear suspension broke before his first timed lap, the Manor and Renault drivers and Nasr were eliminated.
The second section (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. The ten fastest pilots qualified for the third part of qualifying. Rosberg was the fastest. Ricciardo and Verstappen drove their best time on the Supersoft compound, making them the only pilots among the top ten who started on Supersoft instead of Ultrasoft . Grosjean spun shortly before the end of the qualifying segment and hit the track barrier. Ericsson, the Haas drivers, Button and both Williams drivers were eliminated.
The last section (Q3) lasted twelve minutes, in which the first ten starting positions were assigned. Due to repair work on the line after the Grosjean accident, this segment started ten minutes later than planned. With a lap time of 1: 42.584 minutes, Rosberg set the fastest time ahead of Ricciardo and Hamilton. It was the 29th pole position for Rosberg, of which the seventh of the season.
Sergio Pérez was moved five starting positions back because he had not slowed down sufficiently in Q2 with the yellow flags waved twice in turn nine and turn ten , and he received three penalty points. The penalty was so severe because the driver could not see before these corners whether there were vehicles or marshals on the track. He was given another three places back because he overtook Gutiérrez on turn 16 on the same lap , where yellow flags had also been waved.
run
Rosberg won the race ahead of Ricciardo and Hamilton. It was the 22nd victory for Rosberg in the Formula 1 World Championship, including the eighth of the season.
