The Singapore Grand Prix 2017 (officially 2017 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix ) took place on 17 September at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore instead and was the fourteenth race of the Formula 1 World Championship in 2017 .

backgrounds
After the Italian Grand Prix , Lewis Hamilton led the drivers' standings with three points ahead of Sebastian Vettel and with 41 points ahead of Valtteri Bottas . In the constructors' championship, Mercedes led with 62 points ahead of Ferrari and with 223 points ahead of Red Bull Racing .
At the Singapore Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Soft (yellow), P Zero Supersoft (red), P Zero Ultrasoft (purple), as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions .
There have been some changes to the route compared to the previous year, mainly for safety reasons. The route in turn one , turn two , behind turn five , between turn twelve and turn 13 and partly between turn 15 and turn 17 was given a new asphalt surface. The pit lane was widened by 27.5 centimeters, for this purpose the pit wall was moved. In turn one , curve five , curve seven , curve eight , curve ten , curve 14 , curve 16 and curve 22 , new TecPro barriers were installed.
There were two DRS zones on the route that have not been changed compared to the previous year. The measuring point for the first zone was at the exit of turn four , the DRS zone began 48 meters after turn five . The second measuring point was 80 meters before turn 22 , the DRS zone was on the start-finish straight and began 45 meters after turn 23 .
Daniil Kwjat (ten), Kevin Magnussen , Vettel (seven each), Jolyon Palmer , Sergio Pérez (six each), Stoffel Vandoorne (five), Nico Hülkenberg , Esteban Ocon (four each), Romain Grosjean , Kimi Räikkönen , Carlos Sainz jr . , Max Verstappen (three each), Hamilton, Felipe Massa and Pascal Wehrlein (two each) went into the race weekend with penalty points.
With Vettel (four times), Fernando Alonso and Hamilton (twice each), three former winners competed in this Grand Prix.
The race stewards were Silvia Bellot (ESP), Gerd Ennser (DEU), Emanuele Pirro (ITA) and Nish Shetty (SIN).

In the first free practice, Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest time in 1: 42.489 minutes, ahead of Vettel and Verstappen.
In the second free practice session, Ricciardo was again fastest with a lap time of 1: 40.852 minutes ahead of Verstappen and Hamilton.
In the third free practice session, Verstappen set the fastest time ahead of Vettel and Hamilton with a lap time of 1: 41.829 minutes. The training was interrupted for a few minutes after an accident by Ericsson.
Qualifying
The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Verstappen was fastest. The Sauber and Williams drivers and Magnussen were eliminated.
The second section (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. The ten fastest pilots qualified for the third part of qualifying. Verstappen was again fastest. Grosjean, the Force India pilots, Kwjat and Palmer were eliminated.
The last section (Q3) lasted twelve minutes, in which the first ten starting positions were assigned. With a lap time of 1: 39.491 minutes, Vettel set the fastest time ahead of Verstappen and Ricciardo. It was the 49th pole position for Vettel in the Formula 1 World Championship.
Ericsson was moved five starting positions down due to a premature gear change after his accident in the third free practice session.

Vettel, Verstappen and Raikkonen were eliminated due to a starting collision; Hamilton took the lead.
The race was flagged at the end of the 58th lap after reaching the two-hour time limit. It was the first race since the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix to be shortened due to the time limit.
Hamilton won the race ahead of Ricciardo and Bottas. It was the 60th victory for Hamilton in the Formula 1 World Championship, the seventh of which this season. For Ricciardo it was the seventh and for Bottas the tenth podium finish of the season. The remaining points were placed by Sainz, Pérez, Palmer, Vandoorne, Stroll, Grosjean and Ocon. For Sainz, Palmer and Vandoorne it was the best placement at a Grand Prix so far.
Hamilton extended his lead over Vettel and Bottas in the overall standings. Mercedes also increased its lead over Ferrari and Red Bull in the constructors' championship.
The race stewards analyzed the start collision and assessed it as a racing accident; no sanctions were imposed on any of the parties involved.
