The Red Bull RB13 is the Formula 1 - racing cars of Red Bull Racing for the Formula 1 World Championship 2017 . It is the 13th Red Bull Formula 1 car and was presented on February 26, 2017.
Technology and development
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2017, the RB13 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including the body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP. The brake discs are also made from a heat-resistant carbon fiber reinforced composite material.
The RB13 is the successor to the Red Bull RB12 . Since the technical regulations changed significantly for the 2017 season, the vehicle was largely redeveloped. In order to have resources available for this, the further development of the previous model was stopped early.
With a total width of 2000 mm and a width between the front and rear axles of 1600 mm, the vehicle is 200 mm wider than the previous model. The height is unchanged at 950 mm. Completely new are the front wing , which is now 1800 mm wide instead of 1650 mm, and the rear wing , whose width changes from 750 mm to 950 mm and whose height changes from 950 mm to 800 mm, as well as the diffuser , which now has a total height of 175 mm instead of 125 mm and a width of 1050 mm increased by 50 mm. To improve the air flow to the rear wing, the car has a noticeable fin on the engine cover.
Is driven from the RB13 Renault RE17 , an in vehicle center -mounted 1.6 liter V-6 engine of Renault with a turbocharger and a 120 kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . However, for marketing reasons, the engine is called TAG Heuer . The car's sequential gearbox comes from Red Bull Racing and has eight gears. The gear change is triggered by paddles on the steering wheel. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.
Unlike the previous model, the RB13 is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels. This means that the tires on the front axle and 80 mm on the rear axle are 60 mm wider than in the previous season. This also required the development of new wheel suspensions for the RB13. The car had a particularly ingenious system in which the suspension systems on the front and rear axles were hydraulically coupled so that, among other things, the vehicle lowered itself on the straights to reduce air resistance. After the FIA had made it clear that the wheel suspensions, spring and damping systems must not fulfill any aerodynamic functions beyond their actual function, this system was shut down before the start of the season.
Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the RB13 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.
At the Spanish Grand Prix , Red Bull used various further developed parts on the RB13 for the first time, including redesigned side pods, an improved underbody and new air deflectors.
Painting and sponsorship
The RB13 is mainly painted in dark blue and yellow.
It advertise Aston Martin , AT & T , Citrix , ExxonMobil (with the brands Esso and Mobil 1 ), Hisense , Pirelli, smoke , Red Bull and TAG Heuer on the vehicle.
