Lake in the Hills is located in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago not far from the western bank of the Fox River , a right tributary of the Illinois River, which flows into the Mississippi . The place is located at 42 ° 10'54 "north latitude and 88 ° 19'49" west longitude and extends over 27.48 km². Lake of the Hills is in the Algonquin Township and Grafton Township .
