Cary is a city in the US state of Illinois . It is located approximately 75 kilometers northwest of downtown Chicago , the Chicago Loop, and almost 50 kilometers from Chicago O'Hare Airport .
The land on the Fox River was acquired by William Dennison Cary in 1841 and connected to the Illinois & Wisconsin Railway with a train station in 1856. In 1893 the city was founded in the name of its previous owner.
While the feature film Groundhog Day with Bill Murray was filmed in nearby Woodstock in 1993 , some interior shots also took place in a warehouse in Cary that was equipped as a guesthouse.
