Broom throwing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Broom throwing (also called Bessensmieten ) is a north German sport that is played outdoors according to the rules of Boßeln . Two teams compete against each other and try to cover a given distance with as few throws as possible, typically a few kilometers.

Each team has a sticks broom (without a handle) that is thrown like a sling ball . The broom must always be thrown from exactly where it landed before. Within a team, throws take place in turn. It is always the team that is behind (i.e. further from the goal) to move.

Broom throwing can also be done well where, because of the poor paths or the dense vegetation (forest), boßeln or Klootschießen is not possible. Unlike Boßeln and Klootschießen, broom throwing is just a "fun sport" that is not carried out seriously or in official competitions.

The broom throwing is practiced mainly in East Friesland and in the spring. B. in the district of Wittmund (in Wittmund on Rose Monday ) and in some places around Aurich ; But this sport is also practiced in other Frisian regions.
