Huntley is a village in McHenry and Kane Counties in the US state of Illinois . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , Huntley had a population of 24,291. Huntley is in the Chicago metropolitan area . Huntley is named after Thomas Stillwell Huntley.

Huntley is located on the southern edge of McHenry County or on the northern edge of Kane County, 77 km northwest of the Chicago Loop . Neighboring towns are Lake in the Hills in the northeast, Algonquin in the east, Gilberts in the southeast, Pingree Grove in the south and Hampshire in the southwest. Little developed rural land lies in the northwest.

According to the United States Census Bureau , Huntley has an area of ​​37.27 km², of which 37.19 km² is land and 0.08 km² (or 0.23%) is water.

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Huntley lived in 5730 people. The population density was 188.2 people per km ². There were 2501 housing units at an average of 82.4 per km ². The Huntley population was 94.94% White , 0.44% Black or African American , 0.17% Native American , 2.13% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 1.26% said others Belonging to races and 1.06% named two or more races. 4.28% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Huntley were distributed to 2,324 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18. 67.3% of the households were married, 5.9% had a female head of the household without a husband and 24.4% were not families. 20.7% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 9.9% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.85.

The population was divided into 23.3% minors, 6.1% 18–24 year olds, 31.3% 25–44 year olds, 22.0% 45–64 year olds and 17.4% aged 65 years or more. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 women there were 95.5 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 91.8 men.

The median household income in Huntley was 60,456 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 65,433 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 44,524 compared with $ 30,363 for women. The per capita income was $ 27,451. 1.9% of the population and 2.8% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 2.2% of minors and 1.9% of the age group 65 and over.

Huntley is a village with an elected Village President and a Village Council of six members who are elected for four years each.

education

The village is located entirely in Consolidated School District 158. This was once based in Huntley, but has since moved to Algonquin.

Originally there was an elementary school and a high school in the village, but due to the increased population, these have been replaced by five elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school spread over three campuses.

Only one of these three school centers is in the Village, on Harmony Road. The other two are in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.

The public library serves not only Huntley, but also Lake in the Hills and Algonquin, and the Grafton, Rutland and Coral Townships.

The Huntley Area Public Library originally used a building at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Church Street. This was inadequate and was replaced in 1999 by a 1,400 m² new building on Ruth Road, north of Main Street.

The community college belonging to the school district is McHenry County College in Crystal Lake , about 15 to 20 minutes' drive northeast of Huntley.

Illinois Route 47 runs approximately eleven kilometers through the Village
  • Huntley is on the Golden Corridor of Interstate 90 / Northwest Tollway . It has direct access to I-90 via the shamrock on Illinois Route 47.
  • Illinois Route 47 is the main north-south route and is used by more than 20,000 vehicles a day. In 2011 the route was expanded from two to five or between Kreutzer Road and I-90 to six lanes. Route 47 connects Huntley with Woodstock in the north and Pingree Grove and Elburn in the south.
  • Algonquin Road and Main Street / Huntley-Dundee Road are the main streets in an east-west direction. Algonquin Road is a four-lane, split-way street that connects Route 47 to Algonquin and Lake in the Hills. Main Street leads to Marengo and Harmony Road, and continues west on US Highway 20 to Marengo , Hampshire and Union , and Huntley-Dundee Road leads east to Carpentersville and West Dundee .
  • Huntley is on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad ; it connects Huntley with Elgin , Rockford and Chicago.
