Chicago metropolitan area
The Chicago metropolitan area (also known as Chicagoland ) has around 9.3 million inhabitants. It extends over several counties in the US states of Illinois , Indiana and Wisconsin . Approximately 40 metropolitan areas have an even larger population than the Chicago metropolitan area.

The Chicago metropolitan area consists of a total of 15 counties. Ten of them are in the state of Illinois, four in the state of Indiana and one county in the state of Wisconsin. The table shows the population figures from the census between 1950 and 2010.
