The county is located in northeast Illinois in the southwest suburb of Chicago . It has an area of ​​1115 km², of which 27 km² are water.

history

Felix Grundy

The first white colonization began around 1800. The first documented settler was William Marquis, who arrived in 1828 with a covered wagon. The formation of settlements began around 1830. Five years later, the first public land sale began. On February 17, 1841, Grundy County was formed from parts of La Salle County. It was named after Felix Grundy , a lawyer, politician, senator and minister of justice.
