The county is located in northwest Illinois on the east bank of the Mississippi , which also forms the natural border with Iowa . The Rock River flows through the county from east to southwest . history

Whiteside

Whiteside County was formed on January 16, 1836 from parts of Jo Daviess County and Henry County. It was named after Samuel Whiteside , a Colonel of the territorial militia and General during the Black  -  Hawk  -  war .
