Erie is a place (with the status " Village ") in Whiteside County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 Erie had 1602 inhabitants.

Erie is located at 41 ° 39'23 "north latitude and 90 ° 04'45" west longitude and extends over around four square kilometers. The place forms the center of the Erie Township .

Erie is not far from the Rock River , about 20 km east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa . Neighboring towns are Lyndon (15 km northeast), Prophetstown (15.5 km east), Hillsdale (9.7 km southwest) and Morrison (14 km northeast).

The nearest major cities are Dubuque , Iowa (130 km northwest), Rockford (132 km northeast), Chicago (218 km east), Peoria (139 km southeast), the Quad Cities (50.6 km southwest) and Cedar Rapids in Iowa (167 km west-northwest).

Interstate 88 , which connects Chicago with the Quad Cities, runs about two kilometers north of the outskirts . There are no national highways running through the center of Erie.

A BNSF Railway runs through Erie and runs along the Rock River.

According to the 2010 census , there were 1,602 people in 648 households in Erie. The population density was 400.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.47 people lived in each of the 648 households.
