Interstate 88 , which connects Chicago with the Quad Cities, runs along the northern outskirts . Illinois State Route 78 runs through central Lyndon . All other roads are subordinate, partly unpaved roads or inner-city connecting roads. Until it was closed to all traffic in 1980, there was a direct connection from Lyndon to the opposite bank of the Rock River via the Lyndon Bridge .
