Tampico is a place (with the status " Village ") in Whiteside County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 Tampico had 790 residents.

In Tampico's Main Street Historic District is the birthplace of former US President Ronald Reagan .

Tampico lies at 41 ° 37'49 "north latitude and 89 ° 47'10" west longitude and extends over one square kilometer. The place forms the center of the Tampico Township .

Tampico is about 60 km east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa . Neighboring locations are Prophetstown (11 miles northwest), Rock Falls (13 miles northeast), Deer Grove (6.1 miles east-southeast), and Leon Corners (9.4 miles southwest).

The nearest major cities are Dubuque , Iowa (154 km northwest), Rockford (119 km northeast), Chicago (199 km east), Peoria (118 km southeast), the Quad Cities (78.2 km west southwest) and Cedar Rapids in Iowa (205 km west-northwest).

Illinois State Route 172 runs through downtown Tampico in a north-south direction . All other roads are subordinate, partly unpaved roads or inner-city connecting roads.

With the Whiteside County Airport there is a small airfield 20.4 km northeast of Tampico. The nearest major airports are Chicago Rockford International Airport, 106 km northeast, and Quad City International Airport, 79 km southwest .
