The Piatt County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Illinois . In 2010 , the county had 16,729 residents and a population density of 14.7 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Monticello .
geography
The county is located in central eastern Illinois, approximately 70 kilometers from the geographic center of the state. It has an area of 1140 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water.
The county is traversed from northeast to southwest by the Sangamon River , a left tributary of the Illinois River .

history
Piatt County was formed on January 20, 1841 from the southeastern part of DeWitt County and the northeastern part of Macon County. It was named after Benjamin Piatt , a pioneer, lawyer, and attorney general for the Illinois Territory from 1810 to 1813.
