The county is located in central eastern Illinois, approximately 70 kilometers from the geographic center of the state. It has an area of ​​1140 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water.

history

Piatt County was formed on January 20, 1841 from the southeastern part of DeWitt County and the northeastern part of Macon County. It was named after Benjamin Piatt , a pioneer, lawyer, and attorney general for the Illinois Territory from 1810 to 1813.
