Crawford , who was a statesman, Senator from Georgia , Secretary of War and Treasury, and a presidential candidate in 1824. In 1821 Lawrence County was formed from parts of Crawford County and on February 15, 1831 Jasper and Effingham Counties. The first administrative seat was in the city of Palestine, but was relocated to Robinson on May 20, 1818, as this city was in the center of the county. During the oil boom, Crawford County produced more oil than all of Texas .
