The Wabash County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Illinois . In 2010 , the county had 11,947 residents and a population density of 20.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Mount Carmel .

The county is located in southeast Illinois on the west bank of the Wabash River , which forms the border with Indiana . It has an area of 590 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Wabash County:

history
Wabash County was formed from Edwards County on December 27, 1824 after a disagreement over the county seat.
The first court and administration building was built in 1831. In 1857 it was completely destroyed by fire, as were the documents stored there. The next building was destroyed by a tornado in 1877 . The present courthouse was built in 1881 and was completely renovated from 1959 to 1963 after the front collapsed.
