geography
The county is located in north central Illinois, about 55 km north of Springfield , the capital of Illinois. It has an area of 1603 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Logan County:

history
Logan County was formed on February 15, 1839 from parts of Sangamon, Tazewell, McLean and DeWitt Counties. It was named after John A. Logan , a member of the 19th century Illinois House of Representatives . Logan County was also the home of the future US President Abraham Lincoln , after whom the city of Lincoln was named.

According to the 2010 census , Logan County had 30,305 people in 10,992 households. The population density was 18.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.25 people lived in each of the 10,992 households.
The racial the population was composed of 89.8 percent white, 7.9 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.7 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.2 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.1 percent of the population.
19.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 64.5 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.8 percent were 65 years or older. 49.2 percent of the population was female.
