Schererville is a town in Lake County in the US state of Indiana . The city is part of the Chicago metropolitan area .

The place at the southern tip of Lake Michigan was founded by the settler Nikolaus Scherer, who emigrated from Germany in 1846, in 1866. Nikolaus Scherer comes from Schünsch, a district of Tholey, in Saarland. He was born on June 29, 1830 as one of 7 children of Johann and Maria Scherer in Scheuert. The family emigrated to America in three stages in 1843, 1845 and 1847, where they landed in New York and traveled on to La Porte, Indiana. From there they went to St. John, where the Johann Hack family from Niederlosheim lived. Nikolaus initially worked as a farmer to repay the money for the crossing. Most recently his brother Mathias emigrated after he had sold the family's land in Schänen. In 1849 they opened a restaurant (saloon) in St. Johan. They also made grain whiskey. In 1862 Nikolaus Scherer married Franziska (Francis) Uhlenbrock, a native German, in St. John. They had 7 children. They moved from Dryer to Schererville in 1867. His parents lived there with the family, they were 101 and 103 years old. Scherer does not come from Dilsburg (cf. Marco Reuther in: SZ "How Mr. Scherer got on the US map" in SZ from June 24, 2019 and Mr. Scherer “buys” a train station in SZ from August 23, 2019, completely absurd.) .

At the last census in 2010, there were 29,243 people in Schererville.

The city was named one of the "100 Best Places to Live in the USA" by Money Magazine in 2007 .
