In addition, "Shermer" is a "city for everyone" for every teenager and an express homage to Hughes' home area. In 1962 the director moved with his family to Northbrook, where he attended Glenbrook North High School.

Many parts of the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Original Title: Ferris Bueller's Day Off ) were filmed at Glenbrook North High School in the fall of 1985, with the students serving as extras (however, most of the interior shots were filmed at Maine North High School). The water tower, on which "Save Ferris" is written, is located near the public library in Northbrook.

In addition, the party scene from the movie " Alone With Uncle Buck " (Original Title: "Oncle Buck") was filmed in a house on Cabtree Lane in Northbrook, while the grocery store scene in "She's Having a Baby" was filmed at Sunset Foods , and scenes from " A normal family " (Original title: "Ordinary People") and " LISA " (Original title: "Weird science") were filmed in the Northbrook Court shopping center. A small scene from the film " Loose shops "(Original title:" Risky Business ") was recorded on a motorway ramp in front of the Edens Expressway.
