history
Elk Grove Village, incorporated into Elk Grove Township in 1956, was originally established as a planned suburban community. The majority of the homes were built by Centex Corporation . As part of the original concept, the location was planned separately for residential and commercial areas. The latter developed into the largest contiguous industrial park in North America.
Before the development of the residential areas, Elk Grove was home to many farmers and their families, mostly German immigrants, after whom many of the main streets in and around the town are named. The Busse Farm remained as the last vacant agricultural property in the place, between Higgins Road and Oakton Street and was temporarily intended as the location for the new stadium of the Chicago Bears .
