In the course of time, the land ownership of Cass increased through donations from citizens or their acquisition.

A group of German Protestants came to Cass in 1859. They built St. John Lutheran Church and the churchyard near the church. A school was built in 1860 and is now a museum. The city of Lace was in 1890 established . A post office building was built in 1884.

Darien goes back to the settlement areas Cass and Lace . The official city survey took place in 1969. The name Darien was brought in because a member of the founding committee had recently been to Darien (Connecticut) and he liked the city very much.
