Bloomingdale is a community in DuPage County , Illinois , United States , about 25 miles west of Chicago . According to the census, the place had 22,018 inhabitants in 2010.

history

Bloomingdale is one of the oldest parishes established in what is now DuPage County. The Meacham family was the first to settle there in 1833. By the following year, around 12 to 15 families had already settled there. The community was on the Chicago-Galena Highway, now called Lake Street. The place became an important stop for stagecoaches and travelers heading west. Originally part of Cook County , it was annexed to DuPage Counte in 1839 and incorporated as a parish a year later. The northern part developed commercially while the southern part remained rural. In order to take this development into account, the districts separated in 1922. The northern part was incorporated into Roselle . Between 1950 and 1980 the population grew from 338 to 12,659 inhabitants.

Attractions

Stratford Square Mall, which is on Springfield Road and Schick Road, is the largest shopping center in Bloomingdale. The interior open space contains five large department stores and more than 150 specialty shops and restaurants.

Old Town Bloomingdale, at the intersection of Lake Street and Bloomingdale Road, is a collection of small businesses and shops in restored buildings on the site of the parish's first settlement houses.
