The Co-operative Party is a center-left party in the UK that advocates and supports cooperative principles. It acts as a sister party to Labor . In elections, the party stands under the name “Labor and Co-operative Party”.
History and principles
The party was founded in 1917 from within the ranks of the British cooperative movement to exert direct political influence. In the 1930s she began to expand her program beyond the cooperative concept.
The co-operative party calls for the support of cooperatively organized companies and the orientation of the economy as a whole according to social criteria. The party advocates strengthening the cooperative concept in Europe and the developing and emerging countries. Sustainable development must be the goal of both the individual and the economy as a whole. The last election program also focused on affordable housing, good schools, public transport and health care ( NHS ).
The party has been making electoral agreements with the Labor Party since 1927 . Double membership in these parties is possible, but membership in other political parties is not. Membership in the co-operative party always requires being a member of a cooperative .
