Claudia Hamilton Beamish (born August 9, 1952 in London ) is a Scottish politician of English descent and a member of the Labor Party and the Co-operative Party .

Life

Beamish grew up in the south east of England. She studied history and French at the University of London and then qualified as a primary school teacher from Oxford University . In the late 1980s, she settled in Scotland near Kilmarnock . Beamish is a mother of two and lives in Pettinain with her significant other . She is the daughter of the Life Peer and a member of the House of Lords Tufton Beamish, Baron Chelwood ( Conservative Party ).

Political career

Beamish was the Labor Party's top candidate in the electoral region of South of Scotland in the 1999 , 2003 and 2007 Scottish general elections . Since the Labor Party did not receive any list mandates as a result of the election results, Beamish missed the entry into the Scottish Parliament . In the 2011 general election , the Labor Party was finally able to send two list candidates and Beamish, together with her party colleague Graeme Pearson , entered the Scottish Parliament for the first time.
