The Welsh Conservative Party ( Welsh Plaid Geidwadol Cymru , German about Welsh Conservative Party ), short Welsh Conservative ( Welsh Ceidwadwyr Cymreig ), is a sub-organization of the British Conservative Party in Wales . The Welsh Conservative Party is Wales' third largest party and has had 11 seats in the Welsh Parliament since 2016 .
History and present
The Welsh Conservative was formed (as the Wales and Monmouthshire Conservative and Unionist Council) in 1921 through the merger of the three existing Welsh national associations of the National Union Parties. After the founding of the National Assembly for Wales in 1999, the Welsh Labor Party came third in the elections for the Welsh National Assembly. It was also the third largest party in the National Assembly elections for Wales in 2003 and 2007, but in the 2011 election it was able to win more seats than Plaid Cymru and become the second largest party. In 2016 for the election of the National Assembly for Wales one lost seats and is only the third largest party. The party has one of four Welsh seats in the European Parliament. It currently controls 11 of the 60 seats, 6 of which were won through the First Past the Post system.
Election results
Percentage results and total seats refer to Wales. General elections were carried out consistently according to majority voting , elections to the National Assembly for Wales and from 1999 also elections to the European Parliament according to proportional representation .
