The Scottish Labor Party ( Schott.-Gäl . Pàrtaidh Làbarach na h-Alba , Scots Scots Labor Pairty , German about Scottish Labor Party ) is a sub-organization of the British Labor Party in Scotland . The Scottish Labor Party is the third largest party in Scotland and has had 23 seats in the Scottish Parliament since 2016 .

History and present

The Scottish Labor Party (SLP) held most of the Scottish seats in the UK House of Commons from 1969 to 2015, until the party lost all but one seat to the Scottish National Party in the UK General Election in 2015 . From 1979 onwards she won every European parliamentary election until she was defeated by the SNP in the European elections in 2009 . In the first two elections to the Scottish Parliament in 1999 and 2003, the SLP won a majority of the seats and formed the government in a coalition with the Scottish Liberal Democrats . In the Scottish general election in 2007 , the Scottish Labor Party became the second largest party, with a lower share of the vote and one seat less than the Scottish National Party (SNP), which subsequently formed a minority government. The SLP remained the second largest party after the Scottish parliamentary election in 2011 , after which the SNP formed the first government with an absolute majority of the seats since decentralization in 1999. In a landslide defeat in the UK general election in 2015, the number of Scottish Labor MPs was reduced to one Member of Parliament. 40 of 41 seats were lost to the SNP. This was the first time since 1959 that the party did not win the largest number of seats in Scotland. In the 2016 Scottish general election, the Scottish Labor Party lost 13 of its 37 seats, becoming only the third largest party for the first time. It was overtaken by the Scottish Conservative Party , which is now the second largest party in Scotland.
