Alex Rowley

Alex Rowley (born November 30, 1963 in Dunfermline ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Life

Rowley was born in Dunfermline, Fife . He grew up in Kelty and attended school in Dunfermline. He graduated from Newbattle Abbey College in Dalkeith in economics and political science. Rowley then moved to Edinburgh University and earned a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in sociology and political science. From 1999 Rowley worked for the Trades Union Congress (TUC), first as a project worker, then as the person responsible for the TUC training centers in England. In 2008, he resigned from the TUC and became a full-time advisor to then Prime Minister Gordon Brown . Rowley is a father of three and a member of the UNISON union .

Political career

In 1992, Rowley was elected to the Fife Area Council and became chairman of the finance committee. Between 1995 and 1998 he was Chairman of the Fife Council. Rowley was also Secretary General of the Scottish Labor Party in 1998 and 1999 . In the 2011 Scottish general election , Rowley ran for the constituency of Dunfermline . With a share of the vote of 35.6%, he narrowly missed the mandate that went to the SNP politician Bill Walker . After the death of Labor politician and constituency MP Helen Eadie on November 9, 2013, by-elections were required in this constituency. The Labor Party placed Rowley as Eadie's successor. Rowley clearly prevailed against the SNP applicant Natalie McGarry and moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time in January 2014 . As of August 2015, he was vice chairman of the Scottish Labor Party. In the 2016 parliamentary elections, he lost the vote to the SNP candidate Annabelle Ewing . Rowley secured one of the list mandates of his party in the electoral region of Mid Scotland and Fife and thus remained as a member of the Scottish Parliament.
