Itaporã , officially Município de Itaporã , is a city in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the south-west mesoregion in the Dourados microregion . The municipality is also called the city of fish .
geography
location
The city is 228 km from the capital of the state ( Campo Grande ) and 1244 km from the state capital ( Brasília ). The city borders the neighboring cities of Dourados , Douradina , Maracaju and Rio Brilhante .
climate
The city has a tropical climate (AW). The annual rainfall varies from 1,500 to 1,750 mm. The dry season is shorter than four months.
Waters
The city lies on the Rio Brilhante , which belongs to the river system of the Río de la Plata .
vegetation
The area is part of the Cerrados (savannah of central Brazil).
economy
The main industries are agriculture, animal husbandry and fish farming. The city has one of the largest slaughterhouses in the country. In 2003, seventy percent of production was exported to Switzerland, Germany, France, England, the USA and Chile.
