Três Lagoas , officially Município de Três Lagoas (German: Three Lakes City ), is the third largest city by population in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil . The name refers to the three surrounding lakes.
Location and description
Três Lagoas is located in the far east on the border between Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo . Located directly on the west bank of the Río Paraná , in the far east of the city is the Jupiá reservoir , where the Rio Sucuriú branches off to the west. The federal highways BR-262 and BR-158 run through the urban area .
population
The population was estimated by the IBGE as of July 1, 2019 at 121,388 inhabitants, who are called Três-Lagoenser and live on a large community area of around 10,207 km².
The population is very multicultural.
City administration
The executive branch lies with the city prefecture. After the local elections in 2016, City Prefect is the previous MP in Mato Grosso do Sul Angelo Guerreiro of the PSDB for the term of office from 2017 to 2020.
The legislature is in the hands of the city council, the Câmara Municipal de Três Lagoas .
Três Lagoas, together with the cities of Água Clara , Brasilândia , Ribas do Rio Pardo and Santa Rita do Pardo, formed the geostatistical microregion Três Lagoas from 1989 to 2017 ; this together with three other microregions formed the mesoregion Leste de Mato Grosso do Sul .
