Maracaju , officially Município de Maracaju , is a city in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the south-west mesoregion in the Dourados microregion .

The city is 160 km from the state capital ( Campo Grande ) and 1183 km from the state capital ( Brasília ). The city borders in the north on the neighboring cities of Nioaque , Anastácio and Dois Irmãos do Buriti , in the south on Dourados , Itaporã and Ponta Porã , in the west on the city of Guia Lopes da Laguna and in the east on Sidrolândia and Nova Alvorada do Sul .

The city has a tropical climate, according to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification " Aw ".

Waters

The city lies on the Rio Brilhante and Rio Santa Maria , which belong to the river system of the Río de la Plata .

The area is part of the Cerrados (savannah of central Brazil).
