Japorã , officially Portuguese Município de Japorã , is a city in the south of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the Central-West region .
The population was estimated to be 8,976 as of July 1, 2018. The inhabitants who live on the approximately 419 km² area are called Japoranenser (Portuguese japoranenses ). The population density in 2010 was 18.4 people per km². In 2010 it was distributed to 1,400 people in the populated area and to 6,331 people in the extensive rural and forest areas.

The city is located 484 km from the capital of the state ( Campo Grande ) and 1419 km from the state capital ( Brasília ). The city borders on Mundo Novo , Eldorado , Iguatemi and Sete Quedas . The municipality in the south forms a green border with Paraguay .
In 2017, the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística changed the assignment to geostatistical regions and assigned the municipality to the Região geográfica imediata Naviraí-Mundo Novo and the Região geográfica intermediária Dourados .

history
The municipality was founded on April 30, 1992 and emancipated itself after the first elections for city prefecture and city council on January 1, 1993.
City administration
Executive: In the local elections in 2016, Vanderley Bispo de Oliveira became city prefect (mayor) for the term from 2017 to 2020, who ran for the Partido Trabalhista Brasileiro (PTB). The legislature rests with a city council (Câmara Municipal) made up of nine elected city councilors (vereadores).
