Angélica , officially Município de Angélica , is a city in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the south-west mesoregion in the Iguatemi microregion .

history

In 1957, Manoel Isidoro Martins, Messias Garcia Duarte, Ovid Gomes de Oliveira and Ediberto Celestino de Oliveira were the first to settle in the area. The Wolff family (Benigno Wolff and Richard Wolff) joined them a little later. By law no. 2098 of December 20, 1963, the settlement was converted to the District of Angélica of Dourados . The municipality of Angélica was established on May 13, 1976 by Law No. 3691, separating it from Dourados as a self-governing municipality. Angélica has been part of the state since Mato Grosso do Sul was founded in 1977.

origin of the name

According to legend, in what is now called Port Angélica, a woman named Angélica lived and offered food and lodging to strangers who passed by the river. In honor of this lady, the place took her name.

The city is located 261 km from the capital of the state ( Campo Grande ) and 1238 km from the state capital ( Brasília ). The city borders on the neighboring city of Rio Brilhante to the north and Ivinhema to the south . to the east on Nova Andradina and to the west on Deodápolis .

The city has a tropical climate ( AW ).

Waters

The city lies on the Rio Ivinhema , which belongs to the river system of the Río de la Plata .

The area is part of the Cerrados (savannah of central Brazil).

In the city, the state road MS-141 crosses the state road MS-274 .
