Anas Sarwar

Anas Sarwar (born March 14, 1983 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician.

Life

Sarwar was born in 1983 in Glasgow, the son of the politician Mohammad Sarwar . He studied dentistry at the University of Glasgow and after completing his studies worked as a dentist for the National Health Service . Sarwar is married and has two sons.

Political career

Sarwar's father, Mohammad Sarwar, is a Labor Party politician . When he won the Glasgow Govan constituency mandate in the 1997 general election, he became the first Muslim to enter the House of Commons .

Anas Sarwar joined the Labor Party in 1999. In the 2010 general election , Sarwar succeeded his father and ran for the mandate of the Glasgow Central constituency , which Mohammad Sarwar had represented in Parliament since 2005. Anas Sarwar won the mandate with a clear lead over the candidate of the SNP and he moved into the British House of Commons for the first time. Between 2011 and 2014, Sarwar held the post of vice-chairman of the Scottish Labor Party and was its acting chairman from October to December 2014. In the general election of 2015 , Sarwar could not prevail against the SNP candidate Alison Thewliss and he subsequently left the British House of Commons.

As a representative of the Glasgow electoral region , Sarwar was elected to the Scottish Parliament in the Scottish General Election in 2016 .
