Glasgow is one of the eight Scottish electoral regions for the election of the Scottish Parliament . It was created on the basis of the Scotland Act of 1998 . It covers the entire urban area of Glasgow and areas of the Council Arear South Lanarkshire and was divided into ten constituencies until the revision of the electoral regions in 2011. As part of the revision there was a change in the external borders and the borders of the constituencies. In addition, their number has been reduced from ten to nine. The first elections took place during the parliamentary elections on May 6, 1999.

The electoral region of West Scotland borders the Glasgow region in the west and Central Scotland in the east.

Geographical breakdown

Ten constituencies were combined under the Glasgow region. The constituencies were named and tailored to the constituencies of the British Parliament . Each constituency has a representative determined by majority voting . In addition, seven list candidates (additional members) will be sent throughout the electoral region. In the course of the revision of the constituencies in 2011, the constituencies were redesigned and the number reduced from ten to nine.
