Geographical breakdown
1999-2011
From 1999 to the revision of the constituencies in 2011, ten constituencies were combined in the Central Scotland region. In terms of naming and design, they corresponded to the constituencies of the British Parliament . Each constituency provided a representative determined by majority voting . In addition, seven additional members were elected.
Geographically, the electoral region of Central Scotland comprised the regions of Falkirk and North Lanarkshire and parts of South Lanarkshire (remaining parts of the Glasgow electoral region), East Ayrshire (remaining parts of South of Scotland) and East Dunbartonshire (remaining parts of West of Scotland).

2011–
In the course of the revision before the parliamentary elections in 2011, the constituencies and electoral regions were restructured. Parts of the south-west of the Central Scotland region were added to the South of Scotland region and several constituencies were newly cut and renamed. Parts of the East Ayrshire Council Area, which were formerly part of Central Scotland, were added to other electoral regions. According to the new division, the region only comprises nine constituencies.
