Andy Kerr (born March 17, 1962 in East Kilbride ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Life

Kerr attended Murray Primary School , Claremont High School, and Glasgow College . Kerr took a bachelor's degree in social sciences . He lives in Strathaven with his wife and three daughters .

Political career

In the 1999 Scottish general election , Kerr stood as a Labor Party candidate for East Kilbride constituency . With a clear lead over the candidate of the SNP , Linda Fabiani , he won the mandate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the following parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007 he defended his mandate. The parliamentary elections in 2011 brought a change of the MP from East Kilbride, because Linda Fabiani succeeded for the first time in winning the constituency for her party.

Between November 2001 and October 2004, Kerr was Scottish Minister of Finance and then Minister of Health until 2007. In 2006, Kerr was named Politician of the Year for his efforts in promoting the ban on smoking in public buildings . In the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , which was newly formed after the nationwide election defeat, Kerr has been appointed finance and economics minister.
