John Wilson

John Wilson (born November 28, 1956 in Falkirk ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Wilson attended Camelon High School in Falkirk and then worked for a coachbuilder for eleven years. When his job was cut, he moved to Coatbridge and attended Coatbridge College , then Glasgow University, which he graduated with a Masters degree in Politics and Economic History. In 1978 he ran for the first time for the regional council and was from 1980 to 1984 member of the Falkirk council for the Labor Party . In 1999, Wilson joined the SNP.

Political career

Wilson first appeared in the 2001 general election to national elections. He represented the constituency of Hamilton South , but he could not win against Labor candidate Bill Tynan . For the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2003 , Wilson ran for the constituency of Hamilton South , but could not prevail against the Labor candidate Tom McCabe . At the 2005 general election kicked Wilson for the constituency of Lanark and Hamilton East on, could after the candidate of the Labor Party and the Liberal Democrats , however, won only you third highest number of votes for themselves.

Originally, Wilson was again a candidate for Hamilton South in the 2007 general election , but resigned in favor of Christina McKelvies . On the regional electoral list of the SNP for the electoral region Central Scotland , he took sixth place. Since Michael Matheson, who was in second place, won the direct mandate of the constituency of Falkirk West , Wilson was one of the five members of the SNP who moved into parliament for Central Scotland. As part of the 2011 constituency reform, the Hamilton South constituency was abolished and Wilson ran for the 2011 general election for the Coatbridge and Chryston constituency . He was clearly defeated by Labor politician Elaine Smith , but once again moved into parliament over the regional list for Central Scotland.

On September 23, 2014, Wilson resigned from the SNP and is a non-party member of parliament. As a reason for his resignation he was the intention of the SNP at, in the event of secession of Scotland from the United Kingdom to NATO to seek -membership. In terms of argument, he followed his party colleagues John Finnie and Jean Urquhart , who had left the party around two years earlier. Like Finnie, Wilson joined the Scottish Green Party a few months later , but remained formally independent in parliament. In the 2016 election , Wilson ran for the Green Party in the Coatbridge and Chryston constituency . As a result of the election result, he left parliament.
