Falkirk is located in the Central Belt between Edinburgh and Glasgow and has an area of 3,034 km².
history
In the first Battle of Falkirk, the Scots, led by William Wallace, were defeated against the English on July 22, 1298 during the Scottish resistance movement against Edward I. In a second battle of Falkirk during the Jacobite Uprising of 1745, defeated the Highland Army on January 17, 1746 under Prince Charles Edward Stuart British government forces under Lieutenant General Henry Hawley.
economy
The city is located at the junction between the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal . This favored the settlement of iron works and factories for steel production during the time of the industrial revolution . This also included the Carron Company , which produced the carronades named after it for the Royal Navy and later pillar mailboxes for the Royal Mail .
Since the decline of heavy industry , the city's economy has lived mainly from retail and tourism . However, there are some industrial companies in the area, such as Alexander Dennis , the largest bus manufacturer in the UK. In cooperation with the Chinese company BYD , the new electric buses for the British capital London are also manufactured here.
