Christopher Robson

Christopher Robson (born December 9, 1953 in Falkirk , Scotland ) is a British opera singer ( countertenor ).

Life

Robson only studied briefly at Trinity College of Music in London between 1972 and 1973 . Robson made his debut in 1981 in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo at the English National Opera . Engagements have taken him to numerous important opera houses such as the Royal Opera House , Glyndebourne , New York City Opera , and the Bolshoi Theater . He worked with the most important conductors and orchestras of his time. From 1994 to 2006 Robson also appeared regularly at the Bavarian State Opera and the Opera Festival in Munich.

Robson's repertoire includes music from the Middle Ages , the classic " castrati " parts of the baroque operas ( Giulio Cesare , Xerxes , Ariodante von Handel ) as well as contemporary music ( Akhnaten von Philip Glass ). He has appeared in numerous world premieres, for example in the opera The Maids , which John Lunn wrote especially for him and his brother, the tenor Nigel Robson .

In the last few years he has been shifting his work more and more into the acting field (several productions in Munich, for example) away from the traditional opera roles.

In addition to numerous radio and television recordings, Robson has compiled an extensive discography with all the important works in his field in the concert and opera field.
