Damon Albarn , OBE (born March 23, 1968 in London ) is a British musician and singer . He is the musical head of Blur (alongside Graham Coxon ), the Gorillaz and the project The Good, the Bad & the Queen .

Life

Albarn grew up in Essex , where his father was employed at Essex University in the late 1970s . There Albarn attended Stanway Comprehensive School, where he met Graham Coxon . In 1987 Albarn moved to London, where he played with the band Two's a Crowd, among others. In 1989 the band Seymour was formed, which was renamed Blur a year later . Since 2001 he has enjoyed worldwide success with his former living partner, the tank girl drawer Jamie Hewlett , and their cartoon band Gorillaz .

Albarn lives in the London borough of Notting Hill and has a daughter who was born in 1999. Albarn is a vegetarian.

In 2014, he reported being addicted to heroin during Blur's biggest hit period around the mid-1990s ; Although the drug made him more creative, it also isolated him socially, and ultimately any form of addiction is bad.

Act

In 1997, Albarn starred in the gangster film Face . Two years later he wrote the soundtrack for Ravenous with Michael Nyman . In 2000 he wrote the soundtrack for the film 101 Reykjavík together with the Icelandic composer Einar Örn Benediktsson .

On October 26, 2006, his project The Good, the Bad & the Queen was presented at the first BBC electricproms . According to their own information, the band does not have an actual name. In addition to Damon Albarn, it consists of Tony Allen ( Fela Kuti ), Paul Simonon ( The Clash ) and Simon Tong ( The Verve ).

Albarn composed an opera called Monkey: Journey to the West . Jamie Hewlett helped design and animation, and Chen Zi-Sheng directed . The project was successful and found a successor in 2011 with Dr Dee: An English Opera .

Bobby Womack's 2012 album, The Bravest Man in the Universe , was produced by Albarn. Both appeared together at the Glastonbury Festival 2013, Womack was accompanied by Albarn on the piano. Albarn also worked with Martijn Teerlinck alias The Child of Lov on his 2013 debut album. His first solo album, Everyday Robots , was released in April 2014 . In 2015 he presented an African version of Terry Riley's In C with the collective Africa Express .
