Tank Girl is the title character of the British comic series of the same name . The comics were created in 1988 by illustrator Jamie Hewlett and author Alan Martin .

The stories about Tank Girl, who is portrayed as harsh and ruthless on the outside with a partially shaved skull and punk clothing, but appears to her friends as an individual in solidarity , take place in a desert landscape of Australia destroyed by meteorites in the year 2033. Tank Girl goes through an odyssey under different circumstances - the sirens, for example, appear as a Gothic band. The title character is accompanied by her friend, the kangaroo man Booga, and lives in a battle tank .

Publication and adaptations

Tank Girl was first published in 1988 in the then new British comic magazine Deadline , where the comic quickly enjoyed great popularity. The US-American DC - Imprint Vertigo published several issues from 1995 with the subtitles The Odyssey and Apocalypse . The publication of a German-language series began in April 1995 as a monochrome, large-format magazine by Feest Comics . A total of eight issues were published, the last two of which were double issues.

Tank Girl was filmed under the same title in 1995 ; American actress Lori Petty played the title role . For the film release, Feest Verlag published an associated comic adaptation by Peter Milligan and Andy Pritchett with the title Tank Girl - The Film .

In 2007, Martin collaborated with Australian artist Ashley Wood on a four-issue miniseries titled Tank Girl: The Gifting , which was published by IDW Publishing .

In 2012, a complete edition of the work of Hewlett and Martin was published by Titan Books under the title The Hole Of Tank Girl .
