Ashley Wood
Ashley Wood (* 1971 in Perth , Australia ) is an Australian comic book writer , illustrator and designer .
Wood is best known to the wider public for his illustrations for various titles from Marvel , Image, and IDW Publishing , among others. a. to Spawn , Tank Girl, and Judge Dredd . He is also a painter and mixed-media active Artists and operated from 2008 to 2019 as a character designer , together with Kim Fung Wong in Hong Kong based company ThreeA from the Designer Toys produces and were driven out, the extent on Woods paintings, drawings and Comics are based.
Life
Wood lives with his wife, author TP Louise , and their two sons in Perth, Australia.
World of Ashley Wood - 7471Verse
In addition to his commissioned work for larger comic publishers and the video game manufacturer Konami , Wood and his wife TP Louise have been developing their own fictional universes since 2001 , their most prominent and continuously expanding series Popbot , Word War Robot and Adventure Kartel , as well as a collaboration between Wood and South African rap since 2015 -Rave Duo Die Antwoord are. Wood and Louise publish the actions taking place under the label 7471Verse , named after the company 7174 Pty Ltd., which they jointly founded in 2004 . The media used for publication include comics and illustrated books at IDW Publishing and a range of designer toys, oil paintings and mixed media works that have been exhibited in various galleries around the world, for example in Hong Kong, New York and Paris .
Popbot
The 13-volume Eisner Award- nominated comic series Popbot takes place in a fictional universe that Wood himself calls "a heady mix of Jacob's Ladder and Fritz the Cat , with a side serving of David Lynch weird ass salad" (German : "An exciting mix of Jacob's Ladder and Fritz the Cat with a completely crazy David Lynch salad as a side dish"). The interwoven narrative threads revolve around the eponymous, humanoid robot Popbot , who works as a bodyguard for a cat that was once celebrated as a rock star, as well as a femme fatale who fights against a group of murderous androids equipped with consciousness and artificial intelligence and a former punk musician , who leads a group of cloned , autistic urban samurai in battle against a group of robots. Numerous characters in the series have been released as Designer Toys by ThreeA (see picture). In 2012, a possible film adaptation was offered on the American Film Market .
World War Robot
World War Robot , mostly WWR abbreviated, is one of the science fiction genre of associated alternative history -narrative in which a fictitious been registered between 1980 and 1990 World War is at the center. In this Great War , the political powers of the earth's population face each other and the parts of humanity that have fled to the planet Mars due to religious and political oppression . Both sides use diesel-powered combat robots, all of which are designed and sold by the industrialist Darwin Rothchild , who lives on the moon . The WWR universe created by Wood is based on various comic and illustrated book publications, individual paintings and a series of designer toys from ThreeA. In 2009 Jerry Bruckheimer secured the rights to a film adaptation . According to the Internet Movie Database , filming is currently in development.
Adventure cartel
The events of this dystopian narrative, set in an alternative present, are only fragmentarily portrayed against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse and depict the experiences of a group of survivors who give the series its name. In addition to an illustrated book published in 2014, the individual fragments of the story can be found in the comics included with the Designer Toys in this series.
The Antwoord DAx3A
There has been a collaboration between Wood and the South African rap-rave duo Die Antwoord since 2015. This has resulted in a series of designer toys and, since 2017, a comic series by the two musicians Ninja and Yolandi Visser (text) and Wood (drawings) under the title Fuck Everyone * . The designer toys based on the fictional characters of the musicians from their album Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid (2016) were nominated for the Designer Toy Award in 2018.
