Eduard Ausfeld

Heinrich Eduard Ausfeld (born May 27, 1850 in Schnepfenthal , † April 4, 1906 in Magdeburg ) was a German archivist and historian .

Life

Ausfeld was the son of the director of the Salzmann educational institute in Schnepfenthal in Thuringia ; his sister was the local researcher Luise Gerbing .

He received private tuition and passed the Abitur in Neubrandenburg in 1873 . He then studied history and the German language at the universities in Berlin , Bonn , Freiburg im Breisgau and Marburg . In the latter place he obtained his doctorate in 1879. phil. and began his career as archivist in February 1880 at the Idstein State Archives in the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau . When the archive was moved to Wiesbaden in 1881 , he took part in the move. He was promoted to second class archivist in 1885 and moved to the Koblenz State Archives in February 1892 .

In 1897 Ausfeld was transferred to the Magdeburg State Archives , whose directorate he took over after the death of George Adalbert von Mülverstedt in 1898. In this function he tried, among other things, at the Magdeburg City Council to hire full-time archivists and to eliminate the existing shortage of space in the archive. He played a decisive role in the fact that the Magdeburg State Archives received a new functional building in what was then Augusta, today's Hegelstrasse, in which the archive was located until 2011.

Ausfeld, who died at the age of 56, was u. a. Member of the Historical Commission for the Province of Saxony and the Duchy of Anhalt, the Magdeburg History Association and the Association for Nassau Antiquity and Historical Research .

A street in Waltershausen was named after him.
