Judith Huber (born October 11, 1964 in Falkirk ) is a Swiss performance artist and curator who lives in Lucerne . As a board member of PANCH - Performance Art Network CH , she campaigns for the visibility of performance art in Switzerland. In 2018 she won the Swiss Performance Prize.

Life

Judith Huber grew up in Zurich . She studied fine arts at the HGK Lucerne (now part of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences ). In 2015 she did the Master of Contemporary Arts Practice at the Bern University of the Arts .

From 1997 to 1999, Huber was an assistant at the School of Design Lucerne HFG (today part of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences ). From 2002 to 2007 she was part of the curatorial team and board member of the self-managed cultural institution Kaskadenkondensator Basel . Among other things, she organized series of performances and appearances as a special guest at the fair for young art, Liste Art fair in Basel.

From 2005 to 2011 she was the artistic director of the Kunstexpander Aarau festival. In 2007 she was one of the co-founders of OFFOFF, an association of independent art spaces in Switzerland. From 2008 to 2017 she was managing director of the Forum Neue Musik Luzern.

In 2001, Huber founded the performance festival migma Performance in Lucerne , in whose artistic direction she is still involved today. In 2014 she co-founded the Switzerland-wide PANCH - Performance Art Network CH , of which she has been co-president since it was founded. In 2018 she won the Swiss Performance Prize and the Audience Prize for her work 2 x Fichte in Basel . Huber is interested in networks and self-organized structures . Judith Huber organizes regular performances in her studio in Lucerne Emmenbrücke , called (place). In her curatorial work, she works with partners from the fields of music and the visual arts in order to make the overlapping of the three art directions visible, for example at the Lucerne Performance Days 2017 with the Kunsthalle Luzern and the Forum Neue Musik . Music and sound also play an important role in their performances. In her artistic work she addresses the relationships between space, movement and physicality.
