The list Art Fair Basel is a Founded in 1996, Fair for international galleries. The list takes place annually in June parallel to Art Basel .
history
The gallery owners Eva Presenhuber and Peter Kilchmann, who come from Zurich , contacted the exhibition organizer Peter Bläuer from Basel in summer 1995 with the idea of founding a new fair for young, international galleries with contemporary art in Basel. Bläuer then took over the organization and management. The idea was supported by various art historians and curators, including Jean-Christophe Ammann , Jacqueline Burckhardt , Bernhard Mendes Bürgi, Bice Curiger , Ulrich Loock, Peter Pakesch , and Theodora Vischer.
Since 1997, the list has been supported as a main partner by E. Gutzwiller & Cie, Banquiers , Basel.
Art award
The Helvetia Art Prize has been awarded since 2004. This sponsorship award is aimed at graduates from Swiss universities of applied sciences in the fields of visual arts and media art . The sponsorship award is endowed with prize money of 15,000 francs and a solo exhibition on the list.
Special guests
The program regularly includes special guests who exhibit all year round in the Warteck Kaskadenkondensator and the House of Electronic Arts in Basel.
Visitors
In 2019, the list was visited by over 20,000 people.
place
The list has been held in the former Warteck brewery and in a tent annex since it was founded. The list has around 3500 m² of exhibition space on four floors. One to ten galleries will be placed in each of the rooms and each gallery will have around 25 to 30 m² of exhibition space available.
