Jacqueline Burckhardt

Jacqueline Elisabeth Burckhardt (born November 4, 1947 in Basel ) is a Swiss art historian .

Life

Jacqueline Burckhardt grew up in Prague , Oslo , Stockholm , Rome and Bern and passed the Matura Type B in 1967 at the Free Gymnasium Bern . During her training as a restorer at the Istituto Centrale del Restauro in Rome, she did this on behalf of the ICCROM (International Center for Conservation and Restauration, Rome) missions in Dublin , Segovia , Brașov ( Romania ), Venice , Göreme ( Turkey ). Burckhardt then studied art history , archeology and non-European art at the University of Zurich . 1989 she graduated with the thesis "Giulio Romano, director of spend interred antiquity" to Dr. phil.

Jacqueline Burckhardt is currently co-editor and editor of the art magazine Parkett .

From 1986 to 1989, Burckhardt was head of the “Fine Arts” department in the Federation of Migros Cooperatives in Zurich . From 1990 to 1999 she was a board member of the Swiss Graphic Society, of which she became president in 1993. From 1992 to 1998 she was also a member of the Foundation Board of the “Nestlé pour l'art” Foundation. In 1995 she took over the presidency. 1993 was Burckhardt curator of "Toyama Now" exhibition at the Japanese Toyama . From 1995 to 1997, together with Bice Curiger, she was the curator of the traveling exhibition “Meret Oppenheim 'Beyond the Teacup'”, which opened at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum , New York . In the same year she became a member of the “Comité Technique des Center d'art Contemporain” in Geneva (until 1997) and of the Federal Art Commission (EKK), of which she was a member until 2006 and of which she was president in 1998. From 1995 to 2009 she was also a representative of the Zurich City Council on the board of the Zurich Art Society ( Kunsthaus Zurich ).

Burckhardt was a member of the foundation board of the “Verein Zivilgesellschaft” from 1997 to 2010. Since 1997 she has been a permanent member of the scientific commission of the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK). From 1998 to 2005 she was a member of the board of trustees for the graphic collection of the ETH Zurich . In the same year she joined the “Comité technique des Institut d'art Contemporain” in Lyon ( France ) as a member until 2005. One year later she became a member of the “Consiglio Scientifico des Palazzo delle Papesse” in Siena ( Italy ), where she worked until 2001.

Together with the architects Isa Stürm and Urs Wolf and the American multimedia artist Laurie Anderson , she designed the exhibition “Who am I” on the “Yverdon-les-Bains” arteplage for Expo.02 .

In 2003 she joined the Foundation of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts , Section Switzerland until 2009 as a member and was appointed to the board of the Kunsthalle Zurich until 2013.

Burckhardt was a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts from 2005 to 2009. From 2006 to 2015 she worked as an artistic consultant and curator for the "site specific art Novartis AG". In 2009 she was appointed director of the Summer Academy Foundation at the Zentrum Paul Klee Bern. She held this position until 2015.

From 2010 to 2018 she worked as a board member of the Kunsthalle Bern.

Teaching assignments

In 1985/1986, Burckhardt took on a teaching position in art history at the University of Zurich. From 2004 to 2008 she was a lecturer at the Accademia di Architettura of the University of Italian Switzerland in Mendrisio on the subject of "Art in architecture and art in public space".
